This past Saturday, Rachel Weber joined me for a walk up Stone Mountain.  She wanted to share her story with all of you…


When Kristy started asking if people wanted to come walk up Stone Mountain on Saturdays, I felt this little push to do it. For a while I made excuses…but finally I just said I would go. It’s a lot harder to not do something when you know people are waiting on you! At first I was a little (well let’s be honest-very) nervous about going. I know I am out of shape and was afraid I was going to hold people back. I really didn’t feel like being judged for being slow and so out of shape. But then I remembered that Kristy was so awesome to stay with me when I was doing the previous 5k walk with her. She was so encouraging that day to spur me along to finish at my own pace, so I knew she would be super encouraging with the hike up Stone Mountain.

I am not going to lie, I was tempted to call in sick that morning. But in the end, I am so glad I didn’t. Everyone was so nice and encouraging. I never felt like I was being judged. It was hard…I was out of breath and my legs were hurting…but in the end it felt sooooo good to finish. I felt this awesome high that made me want to do it again.

I would encourage anyone that wants to try hiking Stone Mountain, no matter what shape you are in, to try. Kristy is super patient and everyone there was so encouraging. Don’t make excuses and just GO!
