It has been a while since I posted a new blog and I am sure some of you have been wondering why.  Well, I have been pretty busy!  I have started a much needed second job (YEAH!!) and I spent this past weekend having a yard sale with the Brigmonds and Mitchells, in addition to my already busy life.

My second job will be taking me back into the realm of working with children and their families.  I am excited to begin working with the families and trying to help them find solutions for their issues. Since my prospective is a little different now than it was when I was working with the families in Juvenile Court, I will likely come with a “tool box” full of new and improved strategies, including trying to incorporate exercise and healthy food choices into families that identify a need for assistance in those areas.  I am hopeful that this will be a very positive experience for both me and the families that I work with.

As for the Yard Sale….what can I say?  Well, I can definitely say that I had a GREAT time!  I have never sold items in a yard sale before, but it didn’t take me long to catch on to the process and the scams that some people try to pull.  Did you know that people STEAL from Yard Sales?  With my background in Loss Prevention, I was naturally watching for people looking suspicious.  Luckily for me, there was another Loss Prevention oriented person there!  She and I decided that we are pretty good at Yard Sale Loss Prevention and are considering marketing ourselves as such… would you hire Loss Prevention for your Yard Sale???  You should!!  Out of the two days, we only lost one pair of Thomas the Train slippers to a shoplifter, who, had I wanted to deal with the drama, I could have busted.  Instead, I decided that she must have needed the slippers more than I needed to sell them and I watched them walk off in her Walmart bag.  However, there were several other attempts at theft that were thwarted by myself and Mrs. Mitchell!  WE ROCK!!

The wonderful Yard Sale news is, thanks to the suggestion of Patrick Brigmond, 20% of all of the profits were donated to my two upcoming 5K walks for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Leukemia & Lymphoma SocietyWe raised a total of $274.00 to be split between the two charities!!

Overall, it was a great weekend spent with great friends!  So great, in fact, we will be having another one at my house on November 5 and 6.  We will, again, be donating 20% of the profits on November 5 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  I will be walking in The Light the Night Walk for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society the night of November 5.  On November 6, we will donate the full 20% to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  We are very hopeful that we will be able to raise a large amount of money for these two very worthy causes.  If you are able to join us at the Yard Sale, please do!  If you are not, please consider making a donation, no matter how small- every dollar counts!

As for my exercise, due to the above mentioned “busy-ness,” my available exercise time has been dwindling…. I have, however, begun to incorporate some exercise time into my work day.  I have started walking the stairs and the parking deck for 30 minutes during my lunch break.  This has allowed me to relieve any built-up stress during the day and get a small walk in even if I am not able to exercise once I leave work.  (Hint: Fit in the exercise where you can!  Sometimes it is not possible to “workout” for an hour a day, but if you have incorporated physical activity into your day, you are on the right track!)

While my life is getting busier, I definitely feel like I am having a great time finding ways to fit everything into the 24 hours that God allows me to have every day.  I hope you are enjoying your busy lives as much as I am mine!
