I am happy, oh, so happy to report that, not only have I lost the 5 lbs that I gained from my extra calories and lack of exercise last weekend, but I have lost an additional pound and am NO LONGER OBESE according to the Body Mass Index (BMI) Scale!!!  At 190 lbs (29.8 BMI), I am still considered overweight, but I am totally FINE with that label after being “obese” and “morbidly obese” for so many years.  As of this morning, I have lost a total of 182 lbs from my heaviest weight of 372 lbs 3 years ago, with 145 of those pounds being lost in the last 16 months.  Only 4 more pounds and I will be exactly half of the woman I was on the day my son was born, August 17, 2008.  To quote my cardiologist, Dr. Videlefsky, “Amazing!  Just incredible!”

I am as amazed as you guys are… what happened?  How did I get from there to here?  I get those questions all the time.  The best answer I have been able to come up with is strength and determination.

I have written about both of those before and, if you are in the same boat I was in- obese and morbidly obese, I beg you to search within yourself and find your strength and determination.  You are worth the hard work!  You are worth the sweat!  You are important to me (and I would guess a lot of other people) and we want you to be around for as long as God will allow.  Help yourself to be in the best possible condition for however many years you are afforded on this Earth.  Help yourself to be the happiest that you can be.

If you are a competitive person, you can try my point of view… I see my weight loss as a game and a challenge.  How much can I lose within a given time frame, while eating lots of healthy whole foods, and still eating the treats every now and then that I want to eat?  I set goals for myself and I work hard to attain those goals. 

I want to remind everyone, especially those who have decided that they want to live a healthier lifestyle, but may be struggling right now for whatever reason, that you are worth the effort and it doesn’t take long to get right back to where you were with your healthy living once you jump back on your nutrition and exercise plan.  Just because you have made some less healthy decisions and may have gained a few (or 5+) pounds, you are not failing and you can get right back on your plan and forge ahead. 

I will say it again, “If I (lazy, fat Kristy- see, I know what people were thinking, even though you were all far too nice to say it to my face- THANK YOU for that, by the way!) can do this, YOU can do it, too!” 

GET UP AND MOVE YOUR BODY!  THROW OUT THE PROCESSED FOODS AND SODAS!  STOP BUYING THE FAST FOOD!  CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO LOSE THAT WEIGHT!

    I am very inspired by your story. I too was at my heaviest when my youngest son was born. I am not brave enough to post the number yet but I can tell you that I made up my mind last fall that enough was enough and I started my journey. I have lost 42 lbs now and I am a member at Fitness 19 Gym at 20 and Sugarloaf. I am working out on the elliptical for 45 mins 4 days a week. I have a lot to go but I look forward to the day when I too can say I am just overweight, Keep up the good work!
